We’re excited to announce that Michael Howerton will soon be joining us as Granite Media’s Editor in Chief!
Granite’s mission is to make quality storytelling and digital journalism profitable and sustainable through the use of data science and business innovation, and we are thrilled to be bringing on an editor that is as accomplished as Michael to lead our editorial efforts. He’ll helm our current title, Work + Money, as well as future site launches.
“Michael is a brilliant writer and editor with a deep understanding of how to craft unique and engaging stories,” said Granite co-founder Tony Mamone. “He’s also an experienced leader who has built and managed award-winning teams. Granite has a ton of potential and I’m confident that Michael will accelerate our path forward.”
Michael is currently the Chief of Staff to San Francisco Board of Supervisors President London Breed. Prior to that role, Michael was Editor in Chief of the San Francisco Examiner and Vice President of Editorial for the San Francisco Media Company, which publishes the Examiner and SF Weekly. In his 20-year career, he has also held senior editorial roles with The Wall Street Journal, The Daily, and the Berkeley Daily Planet.
“I’m excited to join the team and work to build a dynamic media company here in San Francisco,” Michael said. “Granite has a great creative spirit and a smart approach to creating a strong, sustainable company that will publish top-notch journalism and prosper in today’s media marketplace. There are great stories ahead of us.”
Please join us in welcoming Michael to team Granite!
